REQUIREMENTS

After the context mapping, during the ideation and throughout the design process requirements are set for the final design. These will be presented here,

Requirements 

Functional requirements

 

Camera

  • The camera should be able to read the expiration date of any food and stock item

  • The camera should be able to recognize barcodes on packaging of foods and stock items

 

Audio

  • The scanner should have a speaker to name the product and expiration date

  • The scanner should start speaking in 1 second after a product is recognized

  • The volume of the speaker sound in the scanner should be adjustable 


 

Recognition

  • The product should recognize any product in 5 seconds

  • The scanner should have a motion sensor that gives a signal when a food and stock item is close enough

  • The scanner should have a light that will turn on when the motion sensor detects an item

  • The scanner should vibrate when it is scanning an item

 

Energy

  • The holder shall be able to be connected to the power grid

  • The battery should be rechargeable

  • The scanner should be able to work for 20 hours before having to recharge it again

 

Mounting

  • The product should be designed with a good mounting system to any material

  • Should also be able to be placed on a flat surface

  • The mounting system should hold a weight of 1 kg

 

Safety

  • The product should have no sharp edges

Design requirements

 

Geometry

  • The design should have a maximum length of 20 cm

 

Material

 

  • The design of the handle should be intuitive

  • The product should have a waterproof rating of 15000 mms

 

Maintenance

  • The product should have a resistance of IP54

Wishes

  • The scanner should be able to be tracked (with audio cues) when the device is lost
